I think he likes P-Funk

Alan Wilkis is Chromeo if Chromeo had a 70s funk obsession instead of the 80s. I just discovered Alan and since he doesn't have a Wikipedia page I am going all by ear but here's what I know:

He loves P-Funk - Plays synth bass lines like Bootsy and does goofy low pitched voice-overs like him. Based on his production, his favorite George Clinton album is Computer Games.

Sometimes he plays real drums which he complements with some programming - N.I.C.E features a live drummer and he layers some hand claps and programmed fills on top of it. Its a great touch and if it weren't for the tone on the synths, it would sound like it actually came out of the late 70s.
Here's his P-Funk inspired song N.I.C.E.

He throws down even more funk on Pink and Purple

Just For The Ladies

After checking the sitemeter and discovering that next to no one reads this blog, I came to the shocking realization that our poor traffic is due to our neglecting the female audience. This blog has, for far to long just focused on the babes, baseball and beer while we watched half of our audience dwindle. Well no more. This is a post, special for the ladies.

So lets slow it down...

First track for the ladies is Pony by Ginuwine, produced by Timbaland.

The man's ego usually prevents him from being candid and professing his feelings. Not with Jodeci. In Jodeci's - Freek N' You , his emotions take the forefront as he pleads with his woman, "What must I say? What must I do, to show how much I think about freaking you?"

And finally, some Keith Sweat, the requisite for r&b slow jams posts. While some may falsely detect subtle irony in this post, there is nothing ironic about my love for Keith Sweat. "Awwww yeah!"

Beats By Dre

I was in the Apple store the other day and I got to demo the Beats By Dre headphones. It's $300 for outrageous sound. I demoed them with a Keisha Coles' song and the snares were so crisp and crunched with every hit. As you might expect with Dre, the bass was strong as well. Then I tried them against some Tito Puente and the highs of the horn sections were brilliant. The only problem with these headphones is, if you use them with your ipod, they will illuminate all the flaws of your mp3s. That said, Lady Gaga uses them in her music videos so I'm sold. Here are some more Interscope artist with Beats By Dre.

Passin' Me By

I revisited this classic track today - Pharcyde - Passin' Me By

And though I am not a fan of mashups, this one came long before Girl Talk hysteria and Pat Benetar so perfectly complements this track. Though mashups don't take any skill Z-Trip is the exception cause he has that internal thermometer that went, "This shits hot" when he put these two songs together.

passing me by remix - pharcyde dj/z-trip

In revisiting Pharcyde, I had to post Ya Mama - the source of all great elementary school insults.
